Export to COMcheck-Web, step by step

Overview: Revit to COMcheck export. Export building-envelope data from a Revit model with BIM Pro AI, upload the .cxl file to legacy COMcheck-Web, and generate the Envelope Compliance Certificate. Screenshots use the demo model BIMPRO-Warehouse-Office (one warehouse area and one office area). Click any screenshot to open it full size.

Before you start

  • Revit is open with your model and the add-in installed (see Quick start). The docked panel BIM Pro AI Mission Control is visible, with tabs 1 Setup, 2 Scan, 3 Scope, 4 Preview, 5 Export.
  • The model has an Area Plan whose areas define the spaces to report. In the demo: FIN. FLR - AREA, with areas 1 - WAREHOUSE and 3 - OFFICE.
  • You have a COMcheck-Web account. BIM Pro AI works with legacy COMcheck-Web. The new tool requires lighting before it will export reports.

Step 1Set the imported project information(Setup)

Do:
On 1 Setup, check the fields under Imported project information and pick the required values.
What you see:
Project type* (e.g. New Building), Project title, Location, Code edition* (e.g. 90.1 (2013) Standard), Envelope family (e.g. Industrial shell), Envelope phase scope (e.g. New Construction phase only). Fields marked * are required.
Result:
Until every required setting is complete, Next stays disabled and the panel lists what is missing under “Complete required settings”.

Updating after a model change

When the Revit model changes, repeat the export so COMcheck-Web gets current values:

  1. On 2 Scan, click Re-scan and review Model QA.
  2. On 3 Scope, click Recompute Envelope, then review 4 Preview.
  3. On 5 Export, click Download CXL and save the new .cxl.
  4. In COMcheck-Web, use My Projects → Upload project from my computer… to upload the new file, review the ENVELOPE tab, and run CHECK COMPLIANCE again.
  5. Re-check any fields you completed by hand in COMcheck-Web. They may not carry over to a newly uploaded file.

Troubleshooting

Next is greyed out on Setup.

A required (*) setting is still blank. The panel lists what is missing under “Complete required settings”.

The areas you expect are not listed.

Make sure the right Area Plan is selected. Open it in Revit and click Use active Revit view, or pick it from the list and click Open selected plan. Only checked areas are included on the next scan.

The scan fails or stalls.

Do not switch documents or work in Revit while the scan runs.

Model QA shows Warnings or Serious items.

Open those tabs, fix the flagged items in the Revit model, then click Re-scan.

You changed rooms or conditioning on Scope.

Click Recompute Envelope before you continue, so Preview and the CXL reflect the change.

Values look wrong in Preview.

Use the type and orientation filters to find the component, then check the source elements in Revit. Show in Revit 3D shows which spaces were computed.

Which COMcheck-Web?

Use legacy COMcheck-Web, through Start COMcheck-Web on the Export tab. The new tool requires lighting before it will export reports, and is not yet reliable for envelope-only compliance.

The code edition looks wrong after upload.

Before upload, COMcheck-Web shows its own defaults (2009 IECC). After upload, confirm the project shows the code from the file.

Interior/Exterior Lighting shows TBD.

BIM Pro AI exports the envelope only. The lighting sections stay TBD after the envelope check.
